Declan was born in Glasgow on 3rd August 1994. He began his career as a youth player with Aberdeen in 2010. He was rewarded with a full contract two years later and made his debut for the Dons in a 3-0 defeat at East End Park in 2012. He won 8 caps at U19. He made it into the first team early and made a handful of first team appearances, before being loaned to Alloa, then Morton, appearing regularly for both.

Graham Alexander signed him for Fleetwood Town in May 2015 but Declan was quickly back at Morton for a third period on loan there before being loaned out to Raith for season 2016-2017. This time with Raith Rovers, completed his time on Fleetwood`s books.

The former Morton striker initially joined the Pars on 15th June 2017 on a one-year deal after leaving relegated Raith Rovers.

He was almost ever present during the season. Leaving the Pars after the play offs in 2018, Declan joined Ross County winning two cups there before spending the 2019-2020 season on loan at Falkirk where he scored 24 goals in 34 appearances.

Next it was back to The Pars. Appearing regularly, he played a total of 80 games and scored 23 goals in his two spells with the club.

Declan was sold in June 2021 for £60,000 to Welsh club The New Saints, with whom he enjoyed great success including playing and scoring in European competition.

Over four seasons he bagged 71 Cymru Premier goals in 83 outings. He was part of title-winning squads in 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25. The striker won the CPL Golden Boot in 2021-22 and 2022-23 and became the Welsh Premier`s all-time record goalscorer in Europe.

He spent his longest spell with this club but in January 2025 he moved to Coleraine. One year later, the nomad was on the move yet again back in Wales with Bangor City.

McManus joined Bangor to a huge fanfare in January 2026. He won the treble of Ardal North West title, FAW Amateur Trophy and Ardal North Cup in season 2025-2026. In September 2026 he took on the vacant manager`s role at Bangor City on a temporary basis following the resignation of Sean Eardley
