On 15th August 2025 Dunfermline were delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Jefferson Cáceres from Sheffield United on a 2 year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old Peruvian international joined the Pars on a deal that hoped would see him add South American flair to the manager`s squad. Unfortunately Jefferson failed to make that impact and in February 2026 he returned to his former club FBC Melgar back in his homeland.

Jefferson had intimated that he was keen to return home and the club facilitated the move to Peru in an undisclosed deal.

Born and raised in Lima, Peru on 22nd August 2002, Cáceres brings a wealth of experience from both domestic and international football despite his young age. The versatile attacker began his professional journey through the youth academy of Esther Grande before making the move to FBC Melgar`s academy in 2019.

Cáceres developed through the ranks at FBC Melgar, one of Peru`s most historic clubs founded in 1915 and based in Arequipa. After being promoted to their senior team in 2020, he quickly established himself as a key player, making 39 appearances and finding the net eight times while representing the club in the prestigious Copa Sudamericana.

His impressive performances earned him a loan move to Deportivo Binacional in Peru`s top flight Liga 1 ahead of the 2023 season, where he continued his development with 22 appearances and four goals for the Juliaca-based club.

The attacking midfielder`s talent hasn`t gone unnoticed at international level, earning recognition with Peru`s U23 squad. Cáceres earned his first cap in December 2023, starting in an away fixture against Colombia – a testament to his growing reputation in South American football.

Sheffield United secured Cáceres` signature in February 2025, paying an undisclosed fee to FBC Melgar for his services on a contract running until summer 2027. During his time at Bramall Lane, he featured for the Blades` U21 side in the latter part of the 2024/25 campaign and achieved the milestone of being named in a first-team matchday squad against Stoke City in April.
