Sam came through the Dunfermline Athletic Academy and first signed for Dunfermline in January 2006, coming to the Academy from Bayside FC. A local lad who attended Dunfermline HS, Sam was part of the successful Dunfermline HS U 18s squad.
As a young player Sam had shown good strengths in the U18s after playing with an older age group over ta number of years. This experience saw him perform well enough to be offered terms with Dunfermline. Made his debut aged sixteen when he started the SPFL Trust Trophy match v Celtic B on 15th November 2022.
On 17th February 2023 Sam joined Cowdenbeath FC on loan for the rest of the season. After making thirteen Dunfermline starts and two appearances off the bench in season 2024-2025, Sam Young went out on loan to Forfar Athletic in February 2025.
In season 2025-2026 he was on-loan to Lowland League club, Tranent until January 2026 when he joined East Kilbride on-loan. At East Kilbride Sam started in all eleven of his appearances helping the club to win the League Two title. Released by Dunfermline in the summer of 2026.
