In his pre match comments manager Neil Lennon had expressed a desire to have a good Scottish Cup run and a home draw against a lower league team is surely the best he could have wished for. Their third round opponents, Queen of the South, sat fifth in League One, undefeated in their five games before losing 4-0 at Inverness the previous week.
Dunfermline had won the last home meeting against Queen of the South 5-0 but that followed three visits where the Dumfries outfit had left unbeaten. Restricted for choice through injuries Neil Lennon made three changes from the Dunfermline team that faced Partick Thistle in midweek. Keith Bray, Chris Kane and Tashan Oakley-Boothe started with Charlie Gilmour, Jefferson Cáceres and Rory Macleod on the subs bench.
Queen of the South manager Peter Murphy made two changes to the team that lost at Inverness the previous Saturday `“ Niall Rogerson and Taylor Charters being preferred to Jack Hannah and Jack Stott.
The home side kicked off and got off to a bad start losing a goal within four minutes. Keeper Billy Terrell raced out to clear a long ball up the left and quickly taken throw in did the damage. With the keeper not settled back in his goalmouth, John Tod`s headed attempt to clear the crossed ball sent it into the Pars net. 0-1

The Doonhamers lead would last only three minutes. Dunfermline reacted with two Matty Todd shots that keeper Ross Stewart tipped firstly wide and secondly over his crossbar. The equaliser would come from a Todd cross from the right side right into the heart of the Queens box. Bray got a touch to flick it on to KANE to his left and the striker made no mistake in finding the net. 1-1
The home side went ahead on the quarter hour after good work by Andrew Tod making the break and cutting back from the right byeline for Bray whose shot was blocked but in stepped KANE to rattle the ball into the Queens` net. 2-1

Bray drove the ball against the left goalpost after Chris Hamilton`s 26th minute cross was headed down towards him. The visitors immediately got a chance at the other end when former Par Kai Kennedy fired a shot at Terrell. The keeper failed to hold and Dickenson was denied by John Tod`s outstretched leg. Encouraged by their proximity to an equaliser Queen of the South enjoyed a spell in the Pars half and assisted by some indecision at the back they got in another good attempt in 29 minutes that Dickenson smashed narrowly over the crossbar.
Stewart held a Bray shot from the edge of the box and then in 40 minutes Andrew Tod received a pass from Kane to direct a shot that drifted wide left. A Tod next placed the ballin the path of Todd on the right side of the box but the defence cut out his effort. A 45th minute QOS corner
Dunfermline went in with the half time lead but they had made life hard for themselves. When they attacked they did look dangerous but most would feel that should have found the net more than twice.
Half Time: Dunfermline 2 Queen of the South 1

Five minutes into the second half Todd and A.Tod combined on the right to provide a half chance for Kane on the edge of the Queens box. The striker`s stinging effort was turned behind by the keeper for a corner. That was defended and within a minute Queens had a corner of their own after Terrell had done well to deny a Liam Smith `“ Brennan Dickenson move on the right side of the Pars box.
Play halted ten minutes into the half for treatment to J.Tod. It looked like a nose bleed and the 18 year-old returned two minutes later with a change of shirt. Dickenson was provided another opportunity on the hour, again teed up by Smith but the effort that should really have been hammered home was denied by a block.

In 61 minutes Neil Lennon replaced his central midfielder partnership, Alfons Amade and Charlie Gilmour coming on for Chris Hamilton and Tashan Oakley-Boothe. It was Gilmour`s first play, sending Bray speeding away up the left that produced a good chance for Kane on the edge of the box but unfortunately his sights were set too high. Next Kane`s chance from closer in appeared to be stop by the hand of Rogerson but no penalty awarded.
As the ball flashed across the face of the Dunfermline goalmouth in 70th minute, the slender one goal advantage looked fragile. Jefferson Cáceres and Kane Ritchie-Hosler came up and almost created a third Pars goal but the latter`s effort lacked the power to do the damage. A.Tod headed a 77th minute Robbie Fraser cross on to the horizontal and Todd tried a shot that was too high as well.
The substations appeared to have injected a fresh impetus. Cáceres was caught offside as he was too quick to make his run down the left. Then in 81 minutes Cáceres was deemed offside again as the stadium thought the Pars had a third. A.Tod cut back from the left, Todd met the ball beyond the far post but hit it leaving Ritchie-Hosler to net but Cáceres helped it home to have the goal disallowed.
Fraser struck a right footed shot inches high of the goal from 25 yards out but there were to be no more goals. Dunfermline had done most of the second half attacking, Queen of the South had looked dangerous on the break but it was Dunfermline who went through to Sunday evening`s Fourth Round draw.
