Watson signed from Dunfermline United`s all conquering U16 side in 1972. In 1974 he won seven caps for the Scotland professional youth team as they took third place overall in the UEFA Under 18 Championshiops in Sweden.
From 1973 till 1978 Kenny was a part-time footballer studying dentistry at Edinburgh University in a Dunfermline team that struggled to make progress. When he finished his studies he moved to take up dentistry in Devon, and despite interest from Bristol City, he chose to finish his career playing locally with Barnstaple.
